NEWS FROM OUR CONGREGATION

 COMMUNION SERVICES: MORNINGS We will celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion next Sunday (Pentecost) at 11.15am next Sunday at the Old High Church. The next morning Communion service at St Stephen’s will be on Sunday June 17 at 10am. There will be retiring offerings at both these services for Road to Recovery, the addiction project of the Free North Church based at Madras Street.

EVENING COMMUNION SERVICE NEXT SUNDAY There will be a shorter service of Holy Communion at St Stephen’s Stephen’s at 7pm. (Please note the time- NOT 7.30pm as per the magazine). All welcome! If you would like to take part in planning or leading this service, please contact Peter

SUNDAE SUNDAY CONGREGATIONAL SERVICE 3 JUNE Advance notice that on Sunday 3 June we will have one service only, at St Stephen’s at 10.30am. This will be an all-age service, and there will be ice cream afterwards! Although we will give out prizes, Sunday School will continue until Sunday 24 June.

SUMMERTIME OPENING OF THE OLD HIGH CHURCH We are glad to say that we currently have the Old High Church open for a few hours each weekday. We rely on volunteers to do this- can you help? You can choose what days and times you wish to be there. No experience needed- just a willingness to make the visitors from all over the world welcome! TRIP TO BALMORAL CASTLE will take place on Saturday 30 June. A coach will leave Inverness at 10am, returning in early evening, about 7.30pm,. At Balmoral Castle, there is a special exhibition of ball gowns as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. There will also be an opportunity to visit Crathie Church. On the return journey, the coach will stop at the Heather Centre, near Dulnain Bridge where there will be an opportunity to have High Tea and visit the Heather Story Exhibition. Tickets are priced at £17 for senior citizens, £23 for adults and £15 for children. Ticket prices include coach and entry to Castle costs. There will be an additional charge of £8.50 per head for the Heather Centre meal etc. This trip is open to members of the congregation and their friends. SINGALONG EVENING on Tuesday the 5th June at 7.30pm in St Stephen’s Hall in Aid of The Highland Hospice to raise fund for a cycle in Vietnam and Cambodia in October. LUKE PAUL BOOK TOUR You are invited to the Highland launch of a new book by the former Principal Clerk and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, Finlay Macdonald. Entitled ‘Luke Paul’ this tells the tale of a fictional minister and congregation as they engage with the debate on ministry and same-sex relationships. The author will speak about his book at an event (with refreshments) on Monday 28 May at 7.30pm at the Old High Church Hall, Academy Street. FORUM ON HOMELESSNESS The Presbytery’s Church and Community Committee is arranging a Forum on Homelessness on Sat 2nd June 9am -12 noon at the Culduthel Christian Centre, Inverness. The purpose of the Forum is to better inform our churches about the needs of those who have been or who are Homeless in Inverness and what different groups are doing to help them. . Anyone interested in the needs of the Homeless are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be provided. Details from Rev Reg Campbell – Convener Church and Community.

BIKE AND HIKE 2012 There is a proposal for an inter-church fundraising event for EMMS International and the individual churches taking part. EMMS International is a small, effective charity that works with some of the poorest and most neglected people in the world. Their health care services are provided to those who need it most and for whom the impact will be the most significant. They work with partners based in Malawi, India and Nepal to ensure that every penny is spent wisely. Tens of thousands of people benefit directly each year. This event is to take place on 1st September and those churches wishing to take part should firstly contact John Bruce

AMERICAN YOUTH CHOIR from Shallowford Presbyterian Church in Atlanta is visiting Crown Church on the weekend 9-11 June to sing in their services. They are a very nice group who regularly comes to Inverness. Crown Church is looking for help in hosting them. There is a lot organised for them during their stay, including a Ceilidh on the Saturday night and a community barbeque on the Sunday night. All you need to provide is dinner on the Saturday, breakfast and a packed lunch on Sunday and breakfast on the Monday. STREET PASTORS There will be a Benefit Concert held on the 6th August, in aid of “Street Pastors, Inverness”, hosting a number of homegrown acts, including the “Inverness and District Gospel Male Voice Choir”. This will be held in the New Drumossie Hotel, starting at 7pm. Tickets (£10 / £8 con.) will be available shortly. THE NORTHERN CELTIC ISLANDS TOUR 2012 Keith & Kristyn Getty with Stuart Townend & The New Scottish Choir and Orchestra. These 4 Scottish concerts will showcase several new Getty/Townend hymns as well as performances of Getty/Townend favourites such as ‘In Christ Alone,’ ‘The Power of the Cross,’ and ‘O Church Arise’.As part of this tour there will be a performance in Inverness at Eden Court on Wed 6th June at 7.30pm.
