DING DONG MERRILY OLD HIGH our annual all-age carol service for the Inverness Christmas Lights Switch-on is TONIGHT! This year we will have contributions from Lochardil Primary School and from the St Stephen’s Community Choir. Bring your friends and children of all ages along at 6.30pm at the Old High.
NEXT SUNDAY we will celebrate the First Sunday of Advent with a Congregational Communion Service at St Stephen’s at 10am. Please note there will be no service at Old High next Sunday.
LUNCH CLUB will meet at 12.30pm on Thursday 26 November at the Craigmonie Hotel. Transport is available. Please consider joining us for good food and fellowship. Contact Rae Swan.
OLD HIGH MUSIC Saturday 28th November, 12 noon- Merlewood Ensemble. For the final recital of the 2015 series we welcome back these local musicians. They provided a beautiful ending to our music last year and we are grateful that they are willing to do so again this year. Their programme includes pieces by Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn and others. CHRISTMAS FAYRE Saturday 28 November in St. Stephen’s hall 10am-12 noon. Tickets £2.50 or pay at the door. We would be grateful for any donations of gifts/home baking/raffle prizes – the hall will be open on Friday 27 6-8pm to accept any of the above. ALTERNATIVE ADVENT MEAL Once more we hold our annual meal, on Sunday 6 December at 6.30pm at St Stephen’s. We join together with a simple meal, prayers and readings to take a quiet moment to share in the hurly-burly of our Christmas preparations. All in the congregation and beyond is very welcome. OLD HIGH GIVING TREE As there will be a Congregational Service at St Stephen’s on Sunday 29 November, the Giving Tree will be in the East Corridor in the Old High Church on Sunday 22 November. Details of acceptable gifts for the Highland Homeless Trust will be given in the 29 November Bulletin; gifts will be accepted on 6 and 13 December at the Old High. ST STEPHEN’S FLOWER CONVENER We are still looking for a new flower convener. Annette Stoker has kindly offered to take on this role, but wishes to share it with someone. We are also looking for volunteers to help with delivering the flowers after the service on Sundays. If you can help, please contact Jill or Annette. SYRIAN REFUGEES Highland Council is appealing to private landlords, or people who own vacant houses who may be able to offer a house for rent to a Syrian Refugee family. The Council is expecting to take around 25 to 30 families from Syrian Refugee camps in early 2016 as part of the UK Refugee Resettlement ProgrammeTo register an available property for consideration www.highland.gov.uk/refugeeaccommodation
HIGHLANDS SUPPORT REFUGEES urgently needs winter/waterproof clothing for Babies/Children/Women/Men: Underwear (new) Sturdy shoes (all sizes) Tents, Torches, Tealights, Tarpaulins, Sleeping bags/Blankets, Babies Bottles/Blankets. We have space to fill in a lorry heading to Serbia at the end of November, and are in the process of organising a container to Greece in the next few weeks. FOOD FOR FAMILIES PROJECT- COOKS REQUIRED! Following another successful year of the Food for Families project, David Sutherland has extended his generosity to provide the mince for the Food for Families project once again. This year we would like to provide Vegetable Broth and Spaghetti Bolognese in addition to our traditional Mince & Tatties. However it would be best if everyone would be prepared to make the same food. Could I suggest we make broth and spaghetti as a change from mince! All ingredients will be provided. GO FOR IT ANNUAL CONFERENCE Tuesday 1 December at The Thistle Hotel, Inverness, 10am.
