Respectful Dialogue press release

Indref logoFOR IMMEDIATE USE

The Church of Scotland in Inverness is to take part in a nationwide respectful dialogue on the Scottish independence referendum.

The discussion, hosted in Glasgow by The Very Rev John Chalmers, Moderator of the General Assembly, will be live streamed across the internet. People can watch at home, or come along to Crown Church in Inverness to watch and participate live.

Scottish Government Finance Secretary John Swinney MSP (for Yes Scotland) and the Advocate General for Scotland, and former First Minster, the Rt Hon Lord Wallace of Tankerness QC (for Better Together), will participate in the dialogue taking place in St George’s Tron Church in Glasgow, which will be ‘live streamed’ over the internet to venues around the country.

As well as the chance to watch the Glasgow debate live on a big screen, there will also be a chance for discussion among the audience at the Inverness event at Crown Church.

The Rev Peter W Nimmo, a member of the General Assembly’s Church and Society Council, will chair the Inverness event. Mr Nimmo, the minister of Old High St Stephen’s parish in Inverness said, ‘The Church of Scotland is taking a neutral stance on the referendum debate, making it well-placed to facilitate a civilized discussion. This is an innovative referendum debate, involving key figures from both sides of the campaign. It;s a follow up of a successful demonstration of respectful dialogue which the Moderator hosted at this year’s General Assembly. I was at that debate, which by far the best discusssion of the issues I’ve yet heard. I’m very grateful to he Rev Peter Donald for the use of Crown Church’.

The Inverness event is at Crown Church on Wednesday 3 September at 7pm. Car parking available in the neighbouring Crown School grounds. It is a free event, and no tickets are required.
